I LOVE THE SEASIDE. Any excuse to gamble all my money on the 2p slots whilst smelling that salty sea air and I am all over it. I’ve never been to Margate before, or Kent….or even that far South I don’t think (unless coach school trips through Dover count…) so we took the train to visit Dreamland. What a name. Apparently one of the oldest amusement parks in the UK and it was beautifully retro. Very art deco, kitted out with a roller disco (!!!!), the coolest arcade and an oh so american diner. A ferris wheel, old wooden rollercoaster and dodgems, they’ve got all the classics. Slightly on the expensive side, we did have the tastiest halloumi burger and chips in the world followed by a go on the centrifuge. Bad idea.
I also didn’t realise how lovely Margate was! Stumbling across the Old Town we found endless shops of vintagey bits and knick-knacks (I think it was down King Street?) and we popped into the Turner Contemporary gallery too which was so so lovely.
For a day out in the summer, I’d definitely say a trip to Margate. Coming from London, we got return train tickets for £20 which ain’t too bad. Pack some sandwiches and a bucket and spade and you’re good to go!!!!
(the tickets for Dreamland were kindly given to me through my blog but my love for the 2p slots and chips from the chippy stay the same)
